Replacing the School’s original Gymnasium Building from 1976, the brief was to create a robust, thermally efficient and cost-effective New Sports Centre for the Wanneroo area.
The overall design approach was governed by several factors; the severity of falls across the site, the existing design language of the campus, as well as the new preferred design style that has been curated by the latest four projects designed by DWA Architects on site.
The approach that DWA Architects have taken with design has included several steps. Through the work that has been completed to date on site, we have established a new design language with the School and community that is fresh and contemporary to the existing 1970’s language of dark red brick walls, dark green roof and limited natural light.
At the heart of the final package included a new multi-purpose, light-filled indoor court, suitable for basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton. In addition to this facility are student changerooms/toilets, staffroom and toilets, weights room and other ancillary items.
Externally, four new tennis courts, a new carpark, landscaping and public artwork finish off this new corner of the School.
