The new STEM Facilities at Thornlie Senior High School and Applecross Senior High School are designed to address and reflect the particular STEM focus of the School.

Bold materials and finishes were selected for the printer rooms, blue for Thornlie and red for Applecross, referencing their School colours. This bright pop of colour is celebrated, clearly visible from the neutrally toned classrooms. The accent colour is picked up in the mechanical ventilation, distinguishing exposed services and presenting the building as an educational tool.

Thornlie SHS STEM:

The new STEM building is sited adjacent to the existing IT Labs, completed by DWA nearly 20 years prior. The facilities include a STEM lab, printer room, storeroom, solar car workshop and outdoor learning area. The covered outdoor learning area is a fantastic resource for the School, serving as an extension of the programmed spaces and also providing a recreational area for break time.

Applecross SHS STEM:

The STEM facility is delivered as a refurbishment to an existing Outdoor Education store. The light levels and extensive built-in cabinetry create a highly-functional STEM lab, supported by a storeroom and printer room.
