The winner of a design competition, the Church building fosters connection between the Church and the School, providing a home for the Parish Centre and is a testament to the wider community. The design is underpinned by a desire to create an inviting building, prioritising inclusiveness and participation in a light-filled and immersive place for worship, reflection and celebration.
Each element of the design has been carefully considered, orchestrating a space that brings heart and mind to God. The central core of the Church rises prominently on the site, then through its radial form, reconnects with the human scale to engage with the community and school. Landscaping is a key component in the design approach, integrating the Church building with the school and streetscape.
The materials palette is warm and inviting, while the soaring ceiling and high-level glazing create an uplifting space for the Banksia Grove Parish Community. The natural lighting changes the atmosphere in the Nave over the course of the day; light spills in during the morning and afternoon, while the high-level glazing washes the ceiling in golden streaks in the evening, and creates a soft glow after sunset. Soft feature lighting washes the limestone in a warm glow and illuminates the statues commissioned by the Parish.
